You Snooz You Looz

What if History Didn’t Quite Turn Out That Way – What Would Life be Like Now?

As an online article writer I often put forth “what if” scenarios. And perhaps for this reason, one of my favorite topics is – What If History had turned out different? You know things like what if the NAZIs had taken over Europe and the US stayed out of the war. What if we had not dropped nuclear bombs on Japan and the Russians ended up conquering all those islands to the North and eventually the large island we think of when we think of Japan.

Okay so, if these types of topics intrigue you as well, I’d like to recommend a book to you, one which I find completely fascinating, interesting, and thought provoking. In fact, the author/editor of this book explains that’s exactly why he wrote it in the first place to provoke thought. The name of the book is:

“What If?” Book II, “Eminent Historians Imagine What Might Have Been,” Edited by Robert Crowley – Essays by James Bradley, Caleb Carr, Thomas Fleming, John Lukacs, Geoffrey Ward, Published by Berkeley Books, New York, NY, (2001), pages 427, ISBN: 0-425-18613-X

In this second work, Book II some really interesting questions were asked followed by well-thought out questions and historical accounts. What’s sorts of information and questions are in this book? Well below are just a few such as:

What if Jesus was not crucified? What about: Lake Side CT if Socrates died in a battle prior to becoming a philosopher? What if FDR didn’t become president of the US?What if Hitler and Neville Chamberlin didn’t sign an agreement? What if the allies were unable to decipher the German enigma code? What if there had not been a cold-war?

Weather History

Weather history is a fascinating topic to look over. I’m only aware of two books which focus on the forecasting and prediction history over time. They speak about weather forecasting from the ancient Greeks to techniques which help us form the modern Acai Berry Diet forecast. Each book is rich with information. I have still not absorbed all the information available in the books. The bibliographies are rich with sources for even more in depth research.

The first book is “Storm Warning: The Origins of The Weather Forecast” by Pauline Halford. “Storm Warning” was published to celebrate the anniversary how to make money fast of the British Meteorological Office 150th year. Through the focus on the British, it has a wonderful introduction to the ancient Greeks methods of forecasting the weather. Most of those techniques were not science base, but it does show we were Bodenbeläge always trying to predict the weather. The author continues to move forward in history to the formation of the British Meteorological Office and beyond. A wonderful read over all.

Winds of Change, By: Carole Eglash-Kosoff – Book Review

Winds of Change, by Carole Eglash-Kosoff, is a whirlwind novel of bi-racial frustration and love set against a cataclysmic period that includes the Spanish-American War, the San Francisco earthquake, and World War I. It is a continuation of her novel, When Stars Align, but is a great stand-alone read as well.

Winds of Changedeals with segregation and injustices to Southern Black and Colored communities during the post Civil War period. Although Black pest control sydney legislators were elected and laws enforcing equality were passed, old attitudes persisted, including increases in Ku Klux Klan membership. Minorities were mistreated and interracial mixing led to disastrous consequences.

Josiah Rogers, his aunt Amy, her daughter Bess, and cousin Stephen, are living in San Francisco. Josiah’s ancestors, safe in the belief that they were white, grew cotton, getting wealthy off the sweat of their slaves. Amy passes away and Bess discovers a letter, hidden among her things, asking to be buried under a special magnolia tree at Moss Grove, the Louisiana Building Inspections Melbourne cotton plantation where she’d fallen in love. They comply, providing them an opportunity to meet the people who meant so much during her life and whom they’d only known as children.

Moss Grove is now owned by the Finemans, a Jewish family, with two grown children, Rachel, a dark haired beauty, and Stuart, who had always been attracted to zenerx Bess. Rachel and Josiah launch an explosive physical relationship that ends in their elopement despite her parent’s mistrust of Josiah. Mr. Fineman is forced to reveal secrets about Stephen’s birth that doom the relationship between him and Bess. Racial relationships of the past return to haunt them all.

Winds of Changereflects on jazz, drugs, sex, war, and racism as vast numbers of Negroes leave the South, and the introduction of automobiles, airplanes, electric lights and movies whirl around everyone’s lives.

What We Can Learn From the Past

I have, for some time, believed that the youth of today are not informed of past history. I have met young people who do not know who Hitler was or even the reasons that wars were started. If the school systems will not teach our youth, then who will?

I think that parents in today’s world have a responsibility to teach their children of past facts and make them aware of what can happened if these Druckereibedarf same warning signs show up again.

Hitler had a goal to take over the teaching of the youth of Germany. Our youth should know this. When youth is brainwashed, a young person believes what he/she has been taught and not how to think for themselves.

I recently read a book that startlingly made the same references that I had always believed in. The book is entitled “Last Wish by Elizabeth Kilbride.”

I am a publisher, but this book was not published by my company. I just happened to read it. It brought to light many thoughts that have run through my büroreinigung berlin such as; will our children know when danger is upon them? Will our youth understand government and its control on its people? Will our youth stand up for the brave men and women who died in service for their country?

The only way the answer to my questions can be yes, is if young people today learn from what has past. There is another book that I did publish entitled, “A Letter to the Class of ’65 by Michael Duane Small.” It shows that we learn the present from the past. We are aware of what government policies are, if we know how they originated.

Worshiping False Gods – Written by Arun Shourie – Book Review

All those who accused BJP of attempting to saffronize History when Murli Manohar Joshi spoke about re-writing Indian History must read this book and then form their own opinion.

This book contains incontrovertible evidence to prove that we as an Independent country are, beyond any trace of doubt, guilty of distorting history! That too within the first fifty years of independence itself!!

This being the case, how much an alien ruler should have done, if only to retain power for over 2 centuries?

If the truth revealed by the book that Dr. BR Ambedkar had not even once spoken in favour of India getting freedom should surprise a few, impressions held about cheap hotels in leeds by the erstwhile Viceroy as revealed in the exchange of tested telegrams etc., are bound to prove shocking. In fact the British regime clearly had an extremely poor opinion about Ambedkar’s integrity itself!

‘When concessions are granted politics evolve around those concessions’, says Arun Shourie. How very true!

This is a great book, it is a MUST READ for all educated Indians; educated in the sense as defined by Nani Palkivala, ‘Education enables a person to think for himself independently.’

Pseudo-Secular Parties had ganged-up against the author and were hell-bent on having this book banned. But then the author was well-equipped with micro-films of entire correspondence successive Viceroys had with the Prime Minister of the UK and vice versa by way of safety vests proof in self-defense. Ironically the author’s main defense turned out to be Dr. Ambedkar’s works itself that is in 14 volumes subsidized and published by the Government of Maharashtra. Every speech delivered by Dr. Ambedkar throughout his life is recorded in these works. Throughout his life not even once had he ever spoken in favour of our getting independence. Instead his refrain had always been that ‘India should not become well. If it becomes independent Congress Party will come to power which means the Brahmins will come to power and if that happens it would be curtains for the dalits! So India ought not to become independent’ This was the kind of skewed logic carried in his speeches throughout.

William Pitt the Younger by William Hague

A winner of various awards, including the 2005 History Book of the Year at the British Book Awards, and garner of accolades from parties across the Westminster spectrum, such as Shirley Williams of the Liberal Democrats, William Hague’s recounting of the life of William Pitt is primarily a read of relaxation.

Our longest serving Prime Minister but one (Walpole of the early eighteenth century lays claim to such fame; however, Pitt never used the title ‘Prime Minister’ himself, it being a term of derision in the 1700s), he became chief of Westminster at the tender age of reverse phone lookup, heading the country for 19 of the following 22 years. Hague charts his life, from child prodigy and son of William Pitt the elder, to his entrance in Westminster to his early death. Initially known as ‘Honest Billy’ for his seeming refusal to succumb to bribes and live off the fat of patronage – as was the custom of the age – his time in office saw him transform from being an advocate of parliamentary and economic reform to become a leader popularly portrayed as a repressor of political rights (infamously suspending Habeas Corpus in the 1790s).

The French Revolution of 1789 is seen as the primary cause of such a change, with the elites of England eager to suppress any similar uprising on this island. Dashed was Pitt’s dream of slaying the beast of National Debt, being converted into war-time leader against the raging Coupons for Olive Garden French of what would become the Napoleonic Wars. Hague leaves many questions open as to Pitt’s effectiveness as a war-time PM, being reluctant to give comparisons to the likes of Winston Churchill. The effects of war took their toll on Pitt, as he became a darker character, highly probable alcoholic; whilst his lack of relationships outside of Westminster (he never married, with Hague only briefly considering suggestions of homosexuality) appear to show a stunted man, the price for so long occupying such an important post.

What Song Zi, Chinese Ancient Strategist, Teaches Us

Precisely, Song Zi (Japanese “Son-Shi) is not a name of person. It is a name of a book. That is the textbook of art of War. This book was written around BC 500. Professionals believe that real strategist, either “Song Wu” or “Song Ping”, was the author.

“Song Wu” was a commander who formed King’s back palace army (Secret Service for the king) and taught the importance of discipline. “Song Ping” was a general in ancient China whose legs cut off from the lost war by enemy country. Legend says that he still fought and could lead his country to victory at the end.

“Song Zi” has several meanings in war history. There are several note-worthy advices with respect to the war. Before this book came out, people believed that to win or lose in a war was God will. That was why warriors pray for God so anxiously before war. “Song Zi” is the first book of war, which told people there are reasons to win or lose a war. Man Kings, generals, and worriers learned how to win the war and “Dos and Do nots” in war from this book. This is the first book in human history on art and science of war. World famous strategy and political elements “Ten, Chi, Jin” – Help of God, Advantage of Location, Support from People – appeared in this book.

2nd point is the fact that “Song Zi” is talking about the meaning of war. As a book of strategy, unfortunately, it does not deny war. It says, however, “War affects not only army and government of a country, but also people, food production, and national wealth. Therefore, the decision makers should not easily exercise this option.”
